The Course: Throughout the Individual and Societies curriculum, students will be encouraged to develop the skills necessary to become active global citizens. Students will develop an understanding of and reflect on the causes and consequences of historical and contemporary events through interdisciplinary learning. Through the knowledge and skills gained in Individual and Societies coursework students will become capable communicators, thoughtful decision-makers, and equipped to take action in their communities. This course will focus on the four Individual and Societies key concepts of change, time, place and space, global interactions, and systems.
The Teacher: Mr. Vennes has been teaching at Brooklyn Center High School since 2001, after he graduated from Concordia University, St. Paul with a BA in Secondary Education and History. For the last 15 years, he has taught various secondary course work and currently teaches DP History of the Americas, World History, Psychology and Economics. In 2011, he earned his Masters Degree in Education from Hamline University and has recently completed continuing education credit from IB Diploma Programme online coursework.
